CNN.com – Sunday school teacher dumped for being female – Aug 21, 2006:

Apparently a church has fired a women after teaching for 54 years.  The church is using the excuse that they have adopted an interpretation that prohibits women from teaching men.  This interpretation came from “The letter quoted the first epistle to Timothy: [I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.]”

In a statement, the board said other issues where behind the teachers dismissal, but it did not say what they were.  Go Figure.

To make things even more funny, the Reverend that supposedly “adopted” this interpretation also serves on the city council  with 5 other men, and have a female city manager who runs the day-to-day operations.  The Reverend is quoted as saying:

“I believe that a woman can perform any job and fulfill any responsibility that she desires to outside of the church”
