ingredients

  • ¼ cup Shortening
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup gumdrops, snipped

directions

1. In a large mixing bowl beat the shortening and butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed about 30 seconds or till softened. Add about half of the flour to the shortening mixture, Then add the sugar, brown sugar, egg, vanilla, and baking soda. Beat till thoroughly combined, scraping the sides of the bowl occasionally. Beat in the remaining flour. Stir in the gumdrops.
2. Drop by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes or till edges are lightly browned. Cool on cookie sheets for 1 minute. Remove cookies and cool on wire racks

Notes

If you really want these cookies to look Christmassy, only use red and green gumdrops


Chocolate Confetti Cookies:
Prepare Gumdrop Cookies ad directed at left, except substitute 1 cup coarsely chopped candy-coated milk chocolate pieces for the snipped gumdrops
